FOOD STORAGE JARS

Storage of food for baby, different foods to feed?
Probably could ask this in the cooking section but I figured here Moms would be in the know.
Banana – how do you store an opened banana?
Mango – how do you pick a ripe one, does it need to be cooked before being fed to baby and how do you store the left over for the next day or so?
Avocado – how do you tell it’s ripe?
plums – cook or mash up really ripe ones?
Also any experiences on feeding baby some of the less common foods like persimmons, desert pears, asparagus, spinach, etc… Other ideas for stage 1 fresh fruits and veggies to give my baby a wide range of stuff to try. Jarred food seems to have about 6 flavours and that’s it and I am not ready to move him to stews and mixed stuff yet.
TIA!
I will cut a banana in half and put the other half in the fridge (wrapped and in the skin) until the next day. Remember fruit browning doesn’t effect the nutrients, although it can effect the taste.
Mango doesn’t need to be cooked. Some suggest high pectin fruit should be cooked (peaches, apricots, apples, pears, cherries and berries). However I do not believe that.

There are two kinds of mangos, the yellow ones common in Asia and the larger greenish ones more common here. The yellow ones are generally somewhat soft before you eat them. The green ones should be firm but not hard, and heavy for their size. Some people also smell them. Hmm storing mango, you might want to store chucks in water. I can’t remember what happens if you store a cut up mango, I never seem to eat less than one)
Avocados should be soft but not mushy, however if they are overripe (ie mushy) it isn’t a big deal. Unripe avocadoes will ripen on their own if left at room temp, or faster in a paper bag at room temperature. They will ripen even FASTER if you put a banana in the bag (this works for most fruit FYI).
Persimmons I would just take the skin off.
Asparagus just blanch and be sure not to give any bits that are too stringy.
Try canned pineapple (or fresh but canned is less acidic). Just don’t overdo it or it may cause a diaper rash. The same with tomatoes and citrus fruits.
Lychee fruit (or Logan fruit which is similar but slightly mustier in flavour) are awesome when in season (I think its coming up? I think Chinese New Years an
Spinach would be fine, I would use baby spinach because of the strings in some older spinach. My son used to eat raw kale (stole it from the grocery cart).
Really I just let my son eat what I ate.
