FOOD STORAGE SUPPLIES

How many people out there have food storage, and how long of a supply do you have?
I’ve known hunger, and with kids to provide for I don’t ever want them to know what hungry is. Over the last 20 years I’ve developed a real appreciation in being prepared for emergencies. We’re set for a year. And yes, I rotate my stock.
I raise a garden and do a lot of canning. We have fruit trees and berry bushes which provide us with juices, canned pears, canned peaches, fillings for apple pies, berry pies and several types of jelly. I also freeze what I don’t can.
I bake (using what I raise) so one of our freezers is always filled to capacity with such things as quick breads, muffins, etc. I also freeze whatever perishables might be needed in the baked items when space is at a premium.
Of course, the pantry ( which is actually a room) has every dried good imaginable, along with bottled water, extra batteries, flashlights, first-aid supplies –whatever one would normally keep in an emergency kit.
Our water comes from a well and we have a generator, so keeping the lights on and the water running really isn’t a concern. I live within 200 feet of virgin forest, so there’s firewood available if needed. Also, although we are vegetarian, if necessary there would be abundant wildlife for the taking.
We don’t have a cow for milk or chickens for eggs, but in my freezers you will find frozen milk, and on my pantry shelves there is also some dried, and some in aseptic packaging. As for the eggs…are you aware that you can either freeze the yolks and whites separately, or beat the egg before freezing? Works like a charm.
I know I must seem really out there, but as I’ve said, I have kids to provide for.
