FOOD STORAGE GERMANY

How do you feel about having food storage?
Do you think it’s a wise practice, or is it simply hoarding food? Some countries (Germany) do not allow people to store food, at least beyond a week or so. What are your thoughts?
After hurricane Katrina, being prepared for emergencies is an absolute must, in my opinion. It became obvious that our government and society broke down, and that we can’t really depend on others coming to our rescue.
My family keeps a fully stocked pantry, and we would be able to support ourselves for at least 6 months. After a week or so we’d run out of fresh fruits and vegetables, but that’s where canned and frozen come in.
We also keep a supply of toiletries, paper products, prescription medications, batteries, blankets, cash, etc. on hand for if we need them, and we periodically update everything to keep the foods and medications fresh.
