Help wild mice, there geniuses?

okay my dad saw a mouse like 3 days ago in the basement, then my mom saw one on our 3rd floor, we have 4 floors, and then my dad cornered it in the closet on the 3rd florr and it disappeared, we tried the bucket method thing and the bucket was a foot tall and plastic with nothing to climb onto, and all the food that was in there is gone, so he got out some how, we have 1 where it cathes them live, and two that slams down on them when they step on it(generic mouse trap) nothing has worked, we have found 4 piles so far of our dogs food, stacked on different storage boxes and we’ve barely looked that long, is it okay to put the dog food back?, its just kibble, and we normally just keep it into a tin, and its not old or anything, so someone tell me how much mice you think we have from 4 piles so far that about the size of a hand, seen them on different levels of our house and everything, but now with the bucket we have a slam mouse trap so when he jumls in, he falls into it

Hard to say..with the live mouse traps, try shredding some newspaper and lining the inside of the trap..this will make it look more appealing…good luck and release them far away from your house….
