Have you got your survival supplies together yet? If not, this is something you should be doing if you want to prepare yourself and your family for the real possibility of a disaster or emergency situation. We can go through life thinking nothing will ever happen to us, but watching the news will show you that something can happen at the most unexpected time. You can even watch a disaster come toward you if you live in hurricane or tornado zones.
How do you best decide what survival supplies you may need? First consider where you live and what the most likely scenario you may face is. You can put together at least three days of water and food for your home along with a good first aid kit. Buy easy to prepare foods that you know everyone in your family will eat. If you buy a prepackaged food deal, you may get some items that are not like by some and other items you do not want.
Buy your own food at your local stores when they are on sale or there is a good price for bulk. If you buy canned food you would need less water for cooking which translates to less water for storage, although keeping as much water as possible is a good thing. Figure a minimum of one gallon of water per person per day. Have a portable gas stove you can cook with in case your out of power or have to leave your home.
Leaving your home may be something you have to do so being able to take your three days worth of food with you may be something you want to work out. If you don’t have room for three days worth in your vehicle, fit in as much as you can. We talk about food, but having water is more important in that you can miss eating for a few days but not drinking water for a few days will kill you. In addition to your bottled water, have a way to filter any other water you may need that is not clean.
